Anointing of the Sick

  • Anointing of the sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick brings the presence and healing power of Christ to those who are ill.  In this sacrament of anointing with holy oil, the sick person receives healing of their soul, peace, and strength to bear their sufferings united to Christ in his sufferings. At times the sick person also receives healing and improvement of their physical condition.

Although at one time called the “Last Rites”, in today’s Church it is more commonly called “the Sacrament of Healing”, as it is used  for many occasions of serious illness: before undergoing a major operation or at a time of great mental distress, as well as when approaching death. When used at the point of death it provides a support for the soul for it’s journey into the presence of God.

A priest will always be prepared to administer this sacrament, and in case of need at any time.  If you would like to receive this sacrament, or you would like to arrange for a relative to receive it, please contact the parish clergy.
