The Barpello Mission is run by Fr David Conway who some six years ago built the only secondary school in the area in response to pleas from families to provide this level of education “to help lift our children and our families out of poverty” as the parents said to Fr David at the time. Although the Mission has built a secondary school that greatly benefits the community, the primary school remains in need.
The Barpello Mission runs medical, hygiene, general health, educational and food programmes that are open to all the local people irrespective of faith and belief. For those who cannot reach the Mission (there is no public transport in the area) mobile clinics go into the bush on a regular basis.
