Meditation
Simon was coming in from the country and we can imagine was entirely unaware of the drama unfolding in the city – the place of “civilisation”. We have no idea why he was coming in – but we know that his plans that day came to nought. He became an unlikely helper in the way of salvation – and the fact that he is known by name and that we also know his father’s name – Rufus – would seem to indicate that what he experienced that day may have changed his life in unexpected ways. Perhaps he became a follower of The Way – after the resurrection?
God often upsets plans – indeed there is a saying that if you want to make God laugh just outline your plans to him! Being ready and able to deal with the unexpected directions life can lead off in, at God’s behest, is part of recognising His call – my vocation to some ‘particular’ service that only I have been assigned. Simon’s was to help Jesus in his hour of need. Nothing else mattered.
Question
What is God saying to me in my prayers? What particular service am I being called to? How am I doing with moving beyond the ‘thinking about it’ to the ‘doing’ of God’s will?
Our Father………..Glory be……………Hail Mary………….
Prayer
Jesus, help me to really listen to my heart in my prayers because “cor ad cor loquitur”- Your heart speaks to my heart . Help me to hear it and respond generously. Amen
